God of War: The Beginning of a New IP

God of War is an action-adventure video game set in Greek mythology. It was developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and distributed by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 console in 2005.

Throughout the game, we'll follow the story of Kratos, a Spartan general who serves the Gods. Although tired of this, Kratos decides to rebel against the Gods and forge a new destiny for himself. This will make the entire journey filled with action, as no one rebels against the Greek Gods and has a rosy path. It is revealed during the game that, as a result of a confrontation where he nearly died, he gives his life to Ares, the God of War, in exchange for power.

Throughout the game, we'll see real and fictional locations, and familiar and new aspects of Greek mythology are taken to bring a fresh twist to the game. We'll also see a number of familiar mythological characters created for the game. All of this is a perfect balance, so if you're a fan of Greek mythology, you'll find the game's story quite refreshing.

The game is quite explicit; if you want to see blood, you'll see it. It's not your typical game that neglects details when eliminating an enemy. The action is quite good, as Kratos wields chained swords attached to his arms. This makes combos and attacking quite entertaining, but don't get too confident, as they'll also be quite difficult. Along the way, you'll acquire powers that will be very useful and add a fresh touch to the action.

In some battles, you'll encounter sequences where you must press buttons to defeat your enemies. These sequences are the kind you want to see when, after fighting your enemy for a long time, you want to see them defeated. I call them bonus sequences, as a treat so you can actually see the death of whoever dared to challenge you.

God of War is here to stay, and to date, more than six games have been released, all connected in some way, on both handheld devices and consoles. It's a highly recommended game if you like Greek mythology (its latest installment took a twist on Norse mythology), if you like action with gore or blood, and if you like lots of fun pressing bottles. Dare to experience a different adventure and join Kratos in his rebellion against the Greek Gods and discover who is the strongest.
