An incredible adventure in the new fantasy created by FromSoftware.

From the hand of Hidetaka Miyazaki and with the collaboration of the famous American writer and scriptwriter of fantasy literature, science fiction and horror George R. R. Martin of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, adapted for television under the title Game of Thrones, Elden Ring is born, an action RPG videogame available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation and Xbox.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, a fanatical reader of Martin's fantasy novels, contacted the American writer with a proposal to work together on a video game project. Not surprisingly, he realised that Martin was also interested in a similar project and so they began to work together.

From then on, the task of developing the ideas that would make up the final project began: themes, aspects, historical development, etc. with Hidetaka Miyazaki taking centre stage, so to speak in theatrical terms, gradually giving Elden Ring its final shape and - at the same time - giving Martin the necessary creative freedom to write the most important aspects of the game's universe.

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware Inc. today announced that their new action RPG ELDEN RING has reached 12 million units sold worldwide*, confirming the franchise's fantastic debut.

Miyazaki was at the time developing the last part of the Dark Souls III video game, The Ringed City, whose final update pack was about to be downloaded. When this happens, in early 2017, Miyazaki immediately starts with the development of Elden Ring focusing, as in the previous game, on the so-called dark fantasy by giving players the possibility to create their own custom characters instead of playing as a fixed protagonist.

In reality Elden Ring (which translates to something like Ancestral Rings or Rings of the Ages) aims to make all of its characters playable, i.e. it does not feature large cities populated with many characters that do not actively participate in the development of the game and while the structure and strategy of the game may happen to be an extension of the existing Dark Souls it is actually much larger incorporating new mechanics and strategies in the game such as riding and the ability to fight enemies on horseback.

In this way Hidetaka Miyazaki along with George R. R. Martin and his team throw us into the Midlands (a term we came to know and love with the Hobbit in Lord of the Rings), the largest map they have created in a video game to date.

In general, there are three main types of multiplayer modes in ELDEN RING: cooperative, competitive and rescue.

Arrival at Necrolimbo.

As in any other videogame the story of Elden Ring starts as soon as we create a character that will have a short life as in other similar games but we will be able to revive, it is a constant to which we must get used to.

Before dying and resurrecting -or waking up- we will first appear in the Waiting Chapel and pick up the Withered Finger of Sinluz (the translated names sound weird, better the English names, they seem to have another meaning) that will be useful to leave messages to other players (is it because the finger is used to write?).

We go out the door and enter the graveyard where we will find the Grafted Scion and at this point we discover that the game is ready to kill us, sooner or later but we will surely die.

We wake up (a way to resurrect) and receive the Vial of Crimson Tears and the Vial of Cerulean Tears that serve specifically for that: to make us revive, while a ghost waits for us next to a hole that we must jump over without causing too much damage in the fall or we will be penalized.

We climb the stairs and reach the platform surrounded by columns, which is actually a lift.

We exit the elevator to see that we are finally in the Necrolimbo.

From that moment on, the real game begins with all the necessary instructions and tutorials.

The NPCs in the Elden Ring are many and difficult to find, and this also applies to those in the Necrolimbo area.
