How do I download, install, and configure GOG on Linux

 

GOG confirmed that a native GOG Galaxy client for Linux is in active development. However, because an official release date has not been set, managing and playing GOG games on Linux is handled through open-source frontends, native offline installers, or compatibility tools.

Here are the best ways to set up and run GOG on Linux.

Method 1: Using Heroic Games Launcher (Recommended)

Heroic is the most seamless way to manage your GOG library on Linux. It authenticates directly with GOG, handles game downloads/updates via gogdl, syncs cloud saves, and configures Proton/Wine automatically.

1. Download & Install Heroic

• Flatpak (Universal across all Linux distributions):

• Native Packages: Heroic is also available via your distribution's package manager (e.g., heroic-bin in the Arch AUR, COPR for Fedora) or directly as an AppImage/.deb file.
