Guide to the physical puzzle video game World of Goo 2: The Long Juicy Road.

World of Goo

Chapter 1, known as “The Long Juicy Road" is the first chapter of World of Goo 2.

The map consists of three main hills, with a massive wooden structure with a few hooks emerging from the largest of these. Some tentacles peek out of the water below the hook.

A new addition here: Goo Water, which has realistic fluid physics, and Goo Cannons, which can be aimed or shot automatically, are also introduced in this chapter, along with Conduit Goo, which can suck up liquid.

Chain Goo appears in the last level of the chapter, but basically it's just Ivy but with a different color which is gray.

Story.

Starting from the beginning of the game, the plot is told through cutscenes and the signs left throughout the game, though early on it is revealed that these signs were not created by the Sign Painter.

In the summer 15 years after the events of the first game, Goo Balls, which had gone extinct, begin to emerge through cracks created by seismic activity, alongside pink squid creatures. World of Goo Corporation reemerges, rebranding itself as "World of Goo Organization" and claiming to be environmentally friendly, and proceeds to resume their Goo Ball collecting.

Eventually, they throw a party, during which some Goo Balls lower a hook into the water towards one of the larger squid creatures. The creature grabs onto the hook and emerges, revealing that Chapter 1's landmass is actually located on its back. It then breathes fire directly into the space, which seemingly has no consequences for the planet, but the light from which catches the attention of a human on another planet 100,000 years later.

Trivia.

Chapter 1 is the game's only chapter to lack a character who is seen in the map screen for the chapter but instead has a tentacle monster hiding in its landmass.

Chapter 1 is first seen in the second trailer, along with Chapter 5.

The chapter is a strike similar appearance to Chapter 1, both take place in summer.

Aside from the Beauty Generator. It is the only chapter to have a type of some type of creature hidden in the chapter's map, during the chapter.

  1. World of Goo (the original) had a significant impact as one of the first major and popular commercial games for the operating system.

World of Goo 2 is a recent sequel also available for Linux, but it doesn't share the same historical significance in the Linux ecosystem as its predecessor, which became a benchmark for the resurgence of commercial games on the platform.

    1. The sequel improves on the original's formula with new mechanics, Goo types, and challenges, but is considered a faithful continuation rather than a revolution.

While it's a good puzzle game and has fans in the Linux community, it doesn't carry the same historical weight or the weight of having "revived" the platform as the first World of Goo did.
