Altitude is a multiplayer 2D aerial combat game.

Altitude logoAltitude is a 2D side-scrolling airplane shooter game created by Erik Measure and Karl Sabo, the founders of Nimbly Games.

The best multiplayer 2D aerial combat game on the internet, Altitude is a fierce contest of ace vs ace, battling for supremacy of the skies in a fast paced combat that is way more fun than a flight simulator.

It is a game of steely nerves, hair-trigger reflexes and brilliant tactical thinking. With five unique planes to choose from and an online community that will provide you with hours of entertainment, the game will stretch you to the limit from the upper reaches of the stratosphere and the relics of a long forgotten city, to within the deepest hollows of underground caverns.

The sirens have sounded, bogies are coming in hot… jump into the fast and agile Loopy and drop your enemies from the sky with a tactical EMP blast - but get out of the way before your Biplane support tears them to pieces with 20mm cannons blazing! Barrel roll through the enemy minefield and arm your nuke as you enter the drop zone.

There it is - the enemy base - but two Mirandas just warped in with lasers hot, and an Explodet is lumbering into position over its hangar deck — will you carry your team to victory?

The most popular games of the month: April 2013.

1.- 109 More of the Best Free and High Quality Linux Games Adventure.

tuxgamesSome years ago a friend of mine told me that the Linux based operating systems were like arthouse films Iranians unintelligible, boring and only for freaks.
Today, fortunately Iranian cinema has been open to the world and it is not uncommon to find people who have enjoyed the film by Samira Makhmalbaf for example.
What about the Linux?
As has also evolved, and therefore has gone from Iranian cinema pelicua class hero Steven Seagal.
I refer to the evidence: adventure games list ded essential open source Linux.

2.- Top 25 Best and Free Gmes for Your Android Tablet | 2013

Android tablets have been around for more than a year, but there still aren’t very many games designed to take advantage of a large screen. These games are not only playable on tablets as well as Android phones (at no extra charge, unlike iOS apps), they are all more fun to play on the big screen. Some of these Games were first available on Apple’s iPad, but as the number of Android tablets increases, we are seeing some companies release games for both formats at the same time.

3.- The most popular games of the month: March 2013.
Obsidian is an open source 3D virtual world for Linux and OpenGL.

obsidian6Obsidian is an extensible virtual world system with a fullblown multiplayer client-server architecture.
It is NOT a VRML2 world system (there are fundamental computer graphics reasons why VRML worlds will always be slow), though there are plans to include VRML2 as a world data format.
Features include: Multiplayer Client-Server architecture, Editable worlds and textures, and projectile weapons.
Obsidian is now a parked project, and no further work will be done on it. Feel free to use this code and study the thinking behind it, but we do NOT advise using it as the basis for any virtual world projects you may have in mind.

4.- XBoard is a very old chess interface, it's not very fancy, or flashy, but it has all the basic features of a modern chess program.

XBoard is a graphical user interface for chess in all its major forms, including international chess, xiangqi (Chinese chess), shogi (Japanese chess) and Makruk, in addition to many minor variants such as Losers Chess, Crazyhouse, Chess960 and Capablanca Chess.
It displays a chessboard on the screen, accepts moves made with the mouse, and loads and saves games in Portable Game Notation (PGN). It serves as a front-end for many different chess services, including:
Chess engines that will run on your machine and play a game against you or help you analyze, such as GNU Chess, Crafty, or many others. Correspondence chess played by electronic mail. The CMail program automates the tasks of parsing email from your opponent, playing his moves out on your board, and mailing your reply move after you've chosen it.
XBoard runs on Unix and Unix-like systems that use the X Window System.

5.- 100 Best Free and High Quality Linux Games, Chapter 8.

6.- 107 Action Games FPS for Linux (Chapter 1).

  • Alien Arena 2008 Alien Arena 2008 combines some of the very best aspects of such games as Quake III and Unreal Tournament and wraps them up with a retro alien theme, while adding tons of original ideas to make the game quite unique.
  • AssaultCube AssaultCube is based on the game Cube. It is set in a realistic looking environment, with a gameplay that stays fast and arcade like.
  • Doom 3 (commercial) One of the finest games ever released featuring spectacular graphics and gameplay.

7.- 107 Action Games FPS for Linux (Chaper 2).

figh win prevail1
  • Fight Win Prevail Fight Win Prevail (or FWP for short) is a FREE multiplayer first person shooter. The game is set in an imaginary universe where pilots meet in special arenas to fight to the death with their vehicles.
  • Force: Leashed Force: Leashed is a first person gravity fiddler. To advance, you need to guide rockets to their targets using spherical potential fields. And no, it's not like Portal.
  • Freedoom The Freedoom project aims to create a complete Doom-based game which is Free Software. Combined with a Free Source Port, people will also be able to play the back catalog of extensions made to Doom by hobbyists over the last 10 years.

8.- 3D Chess, 3 dimensional Chess game for X11R6.

By default, Ubuntu comes with glChess, part of the GNOME game suite. It uses the venerable and solid GNUChess engine, but the 2D graphics, while functional, lack the flash common in modern computer chess games.
3 dimensional Chess game for X11R6. There are three boards, stacked vertically; 96 pieces of which most are the traditional chess pieces with just a couple of additions; 26 possible directions in which to move. The AI isn't wonderful, but provides a challenging enough game to all but the most highly skilled players.
3D Chess is an odd, yet interesting game. You have three boards upon which to play, a few new pieces, and no manual to tell me how the new pieces work!!! But this game looks quite cool though, a bit like chess in Star Trek. All it needs is a manual or a link to a website containing documentation. Also, there is no AI to handle this game, so you must have another person to play with. I also like the board names which are x, y, and z.

9.- The Last Sorceror is a fast-action game where you are the leader of a powerful Order of Sorcerors.

last sorceror2The Last Sorceror is a fast-action game where you are the leader of a powerful Order of Sorcerors.
Having defeated mankind's greatest enemy, the Demon Hordes, you retreat to Haven for a life of peaceful seclusion.
This game features Robotron-style action, with the main character being a Wizard who can lay waste to enemy hordes using a variety of magical spells.
Contrary to what it says in the game's exit screen, it is perfectly fine to distribute these files to whomever you wish.

10.- Brutal Chess is a 3D chess game with several levels of AI inspired by 'Battle Chess'

Brutal Chess is actually pretty good. The board and pieces look nice, the AI is good, it actually take time to make a move. Alas, this game will also not load correctly. I imagine that I am having the same problem that Dreamchess is giving me, which is to bad.
I'm not a big fan of chess but if I do play it, at least I want it to look good. Brutal Chess certainly fulfills this with excellent 3D graphics and some cool features to keep the game interesting.
Despite the name Brutal Chess, the game is in no way violent or brutal. The rules and gameplay are as in any other Chess game except here you can choose some pretty cool chess piece designs and the 3D graphics make it look great. The developers have added a few other touches of realism too including shadows, the ability to rotate the camera in any position and history arrows to show your previous moves.

109 Action Games Others for Linux (Chapter 2).

 Jet Ducks.

Jet Ducks is a classic arcade-shooter mix inspired by Duck Hunt. There's never been a better time to play a brand new old fashioned shooter Jet Ducks on your iOS, because it is FREE now and with a greatly expanded weaponry it has become much more addictive. The rules stay the same: your dog helps you to locate ducks and your task is to successfully shoot down the birds. But this time there are no mere ducks, you'll stand against well-equipped birds with high-speed jet packs, paintball machine guns what makes them not an easy mark. And they can fight you back.If that isn't enough, Jet Ducks include a number of guns and supplement stuff. Every level gives you a free upgrade to try: radar upgrade, shotgun, rifle and machine gun M16.

Kairo is an indie adventure game, developed and published by Locked Door Puzzle, Richard Perrin's independent studio. Kairo is set in world of minimalist abstract architecture which the player must explore to solve the puzzle contained within. Kairo is played from first person perspective and has no additional controls beyond the ability to look around and navigate the environment. Interaction comes in the form of pushing objects, standing on switches or the environment reacting to player movement. There is no dialogue and very little text in the game. The narrative comes entirely through environmental storytelling as the world is filled with clues and hints towards the player's purpose. Enter the lost world of Kairo. Explore vast abandoned monuments. Bring strange and ancient machinery back to life. Slowly uncover the true purpose of Kairo and fulfil a great destiny.

Loose Cannon
Loose Cannon is 3D 3rd person action adventure game.

Magnificent Gunbright
Magnificent Gunbright is an abstract shooter; kind of a cross between Warning Forever and Tumiki Fighters. Your blob cloud is at once your defensive shield and your ammunition, and more blobs are always raining from the sky.
Falling from the top of the screen like rain is a steady supply of more blobs. If one of the blobs in your cloud touches a white blob that fell from the sky, even while shooting, the blob joins your cluster.
Falling from the bottom of the screen is black blobs, that your enemy can use to bulk himself up, as well. Blob rain does no damage to either party; you can tell that it's rain and not bullets because rain travels away from you.

Moagg combines several game types of other genres like races, search & rescue, seek & destroy et cetera into a 2D gravity game. You are pilot of a small space ship and have to navigate that ship through different levels. But beside the gravity that drags you down there are other obstacles like laser ports, magnets, black holes, cannons, rockets and grinders you have to master.
The "original" (which I now consider as "old") Moagg was based on C++ and SDL . Due lack of time and motivation to continue, the development ended with the 0.18 release in summer 2005. During this time I discovered the power of Java and thus started a Java-port of Moagg in the beginning of 2007.

molecule-manMolecule Man Molecule Man is a port of a 3D isometric maze game for the ZX Spectrum that was released in 1986.Molecule Man is trapped in a radioactive maze and must reach the escape teleport before the radiation kills him.nAlthough Molecule Man looks at first glance like a simple isometric maze game, it is more sophisticated than 3D Monster Maze and more similar to Spectrum classics like Knightlore. The only way you can escape from the maze is by using the teleporter, but you can only use it only after you have collected all sixteen sections of the level's circuit board. To keep the radiation dose down, you also need to periodically take anti-rad pills.

Monster Masher .

monster masher
Monster Masher is for the Gnome desktop environment. The basic idea is that you, as levitation worker gnome, has to clean the caves for monsters that want to roll over you. You do the cleaning by mashing the monsters with stone blocks.

Transcend Game Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D shooter. The graphics are geometrical, and the pace is sometimes frenzied. Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape to another, produces striking displays. Combining these dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations makes each play through a Transcend level visually different from the last. The second novel feature is Transcend's musical power-up system. As you play through a level, you are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a unique piece of music. Transcend merges video games with pure art---it can be viewed either as a game or as a multimedia sculpture.

Tunnel Tunnel is a game in which you control a capsule going down a tunnel, shooting other balls in the way. Tunnel is free software released under the GPL. The game has been tested on GNU/Linux and Windows.

109 Action Games Others for Linux (Chapter I).

First-person shooter (FPS) is a video game genre which centers the gameplay around gun and projectile weapon-based combat through the first-person perspective; i.e., the player experiences the action through the eyes of a protagonist.

Generally speaking, the first-person shooter shares common traits with other shooter games, which in turn fall under the heading action game.

From the genre's inception, advanced 3D or pseudo-3D graphics elements have challenged hardware development, and multiplayer gaming has been integral.

The first-person shooter has since been traced as far back as Maze War, development of which began in 1973, and 1974's Spasim. 1987's MIDI Maze for the Atari ST was one of the first network multiplayer action games and also saw release on game consoles. Frozen-Bubble
frozen-bubble-logoFrozen Bubble is a full-featured, colorful animated penguin eyecandy, 50 levels of 1p game, hours and hours of 2p game, professional quality 20-channels musics, 15 stereo sound effects, 7 unique graphical transition effects. Frozen-Bubble is a clone of the popular "Puzzle Bobble" game, in which you attempt to shoot bubbles into groups of the same color to cause them to pop. It features 100 single-player levels, a two-player mode, music and striking graphics. The game mainly consists of firing randomly chosen bubbles across the board. If the shoot ends up having a clump of at least 3 bubbles of the same color, they all pop. If you're using Linux, maybe we can help. When trying to use your joystick in Frozen-Bubble, if nothing comes up, most probably your joystick isn't configured correctly (or supported in Linux), use --joysticks-info commandline parameter to verify that FB detects your joystick properly:
penumbra2Penumbra Overture is a first person adventure game which focuses on story, immersion and puzzles. Instead of using violence to progress the player has to use his/her wits to guide Philip on his quest to unravel the past. Like all good nightmares, Philip's begins with something all too real - his mother's death. The days following the funeral are characterized by nothing, save for an incessant feeling of abandonment. Until, that is, he receives a letter from a dead man. Philip's father left before he was born, taking his reasons with him. Now, here he is, opening up the door from beyond the grave. That door leads to more questions, and those questions lead to Greenland. Philip follows the clues - they're all he has left.

The game features two playable characters and a variety of weapons, items, armour, monsters, and beautiful level scenery and graphics. Ardentryst is a platformer game and plays similarly to games such as Castlevania and Maplestory. There are RPG elements present in the game such as attributes, abilities and an inventory system which increases the depth of in-game play. Levels are played in a sequence defined by the world map, similar to the Donkey Kong Country series games, and there is a boss stage at the end of every world.

Atom Zombie SmasherAtom Zombie Smasher (commercial) Atom Zombie Smasher is an action-packed game that plays out across a number of missions where your goal is to evacuate zombie-infested cities with a helicopter and groups of mercenaries. As a game, Atom Zombie Smasher is just a series of RTS matches. You’re harvesting resources from a map. Instead of fighting an enemy, you’re fighting time, because the resources go bad in a matter of seconds (these are very short matches). You get three or four units, which makes Atom Zombie Smasher a bit of a puzzle game.Sometimes you’ll get a perfect set of tools for the situation. Other times, you’re completely and utterly screwed. It’s all indie graphics — dots, really — strung together in a simple but effective campaign mode.

    Axis Runner

Axis Runner is a 3D game inspired by the Apple II game "Lode Runner". It features a built-in graphics engine and runs fine without hardware acceleration. All direction is relative as characters climb up on the walls and ceiling, reminiscent of the fighting scenes in movies such as "The Matrix". This idea comes from some years ago; basically a 3D lode-runner type game with a weird topology: if the runner bumps into a wall he climbs up (like the fighting scenes in "The Matrix" or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") but if he reaches an edge he falls, in the current downwards direction. I.e. the direction of gravity changes. To keep the world finite it is enclosed in a cube. Typically characters walk on the ceiling/up walls/pipes etc.

Babaliba is a Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer game programmed by Víctor Ruiz, founder of Dinamic, one of the great software companies of Spanish software "golden age", in 1985. It is part of the trilogy started with Saimazoom, followed by Babaliba and ended with the amazing Abu Simbel Profanation, starring Johnnie Jones. Babaliba is a video-adventure with fast movements and frenetic action. Colourful and big sized graphics, not forgetting we are talking about a 1985 Spectrum game. The goal of the game could be the script of a 50's decade adventures movie starred by Clark Gable, or more recently by Indy Jones (the character that "inspired" Johnnie)

      phantomas inicio
Phantomas is a remake of the mythic platform game Phantomas, made by Enric Cervera in 1986. This project was born the last week of 2004 as a remake of the mythic platform game Phantomas, made by Enric Cervera and published by Dinamic Software in 1986. Eventually, I decided to remake the second part, Phantomas 2, created by Emilio Salgueiro and also published by Dinamic Software in the same year. Both are precision games in which you must guide the android thief Phantomas and think before you act. Phantomas PC and Phantomas PC 2 are gifts. They are totally free and the source code is at your disposal. Both games support a lot of platforms.Check downloads to the right.
      Pinch ol' Santa 2 logo
Pinch ol' Santa 2 is a small Christmas game made by SwordLord - the coding crew. It is Christmas Eve and the time is nearing 9 o' clock in the evening. There can only be seconds until Santa starts to deliver his parcels to the chimneys of your town. You look through your window, out of your room at the roofs of a town somewhere in Switzerland. As you admire the lamps and the scenery in general, you see Santa. And there he is, running across that roof on the left of your window.Looking at Santa you get an idea: Maybe if you pinch him now, he will lose a parcel or two which you then can take for yourself. You open the window and start to Pinch ol' Santa.

Rats&Spears is a cartoon-like game where rats are going mad about javelin-throwing. They live not far from your house. Just over the fence from the last cottage on your street there's a dump. Not a romantic place, dear Sirs and Madams, but that's where they live. Recently these creatures have decided to organize their own Olympics to let the world hear of them. We don't know why but javelin-throwing seems to become rats favorite sport. Are you ready to reincarnate in one of them and master your throwing skills? The game is easy to play, but a bit tricky to get a good score on. Like so many games of this category, once you get your groove on, it gets easier- tap at exactly ‘these’ points to get the best combination of speed and angle for the top scores. The artwork is a nice balance of simplicity and detail that does not chew up resources needlessly or make it awkward to see.

Salp Wars is an open source software that will let you perform Side-Scrolling/Arcade Games tasks. It's free for both personal and commercial use, thus the perfect choice for those that want an alternative for Side-Scrolling Arcade Games programs. Requirements. This game has not been tested with anything less than a 300mhz PII. The main boxes used for testing are a 750mhz Duron and 800mhz PIII. Your mileage might vary. Computers running in "server" mode (default) will require more CPU power than in the (relatively dumb) "client" mode.

      supermaze start
SuperMaze SuperMaze is a simple to learn and play humorous non-violent hunt-and-shoot game using Smileys as the main actors in a maze style environment. You don't need more than the cursor keys and the space key to control your Smiley. The aim of the game is simple: Hunt each other and try to reach as first the win score. There are several different mazes supplied with the game in various sizes and styles. SuperMaze is fully networked and multi platform and so playable on a vast amount of computers. Needless to say that all platforms may play together in networked games. The game does not require the very latest hardware. A moderate system with 800 Mhz is sufficient to play.

      tower toppler2
Tower Toppler Tower Toppler is an almost complete reimplementation of the old game known as Tower Toppler or Nebulus. This game was available for PC, Atari, C64.In this game you have to help a cute little green animal switch off some kind of "evil" mechanism. The "power off switch" is hidden somewhere in high towers. On your way to the target you need to avoid a lot of strange robots that guard the tower. That sounds all like a normal jump and run game. What makes this game different is that you walk arond the tower which is revolving on the screen, so that you only see the 180° that are currently visible.

Windstille is going to become an old-school 2D site-scrolling shoot'em up game, similar to Turrican or Metroid (with probally some influence of Another World and Flashback). The game will use OpenGL for fast blitting, alpha effects, light effects, rotation, scaling and probally pseudo 3D effects like the ones in Yoshis Island. Exploration will be more needed than plain shoot action, even so the players-character will be equipped with a multifunctional war-suit, so he will be far from defenseless. The game will have slow placed explore and seak sequences as well as more rough section that will feature fast shoot and jump action. The game world should be presented in a consistent state, enemies once destroyed should not respawn automatically.

Worminator 3 is akin to many Apogee Software and ID Software classic action games such as Duke Nukem and Commander Keen. In it, you play as The Worminator (or as several other optional characters) and fight your way through many levels of madness and mayhem. It features nine unique weapons, visible character damage, multiple supported resolutions, full screen scrolling, sound and music, and more. Here are some key features of "Worminator":
