Rats&Spears is a cartoon-like game where rats are going mad about javelin-throwing.

rats&spearsRats&Spears is a cartoon-like game where rats are going mad about javelin-throwing.

They live not far from your house. Just over the fence from the last cottage on your street there's a dump.

Not a romantic place, dear Sirs and Madams, but that's where they live. Recently these creatures have decided to organize their own Olympics to let the world hear of them.

We don't know why but javelin-throwing seems to become rats favorite sport. Are you ready to reincarnate in one of them and master your throwing skills?

The game is easy to play, but a bit tricky to get a good score on. Like so many games of this category, once you get your groove on, it gets easier- tap at exactly ‘these’ points to get the best combination of speed and angle for the top scores. The artwork is a nice balance of simplicity and detail that does not chew up resources needlessly or make it awkward to see.

This is planned to be the first game in what appears to be a planned series of rat-themed olympics, which calls to mind the fun but warped series of Yetisport.org games. Other games by Absolutist suggest that any future games in the soon-to-be famous Mouse Sports Network would be worth a look. This is a fun, simple game that I like mostly because it is such a whimsical story. It ain’t new, but it is something different.

Giana's Return aims to be a worthy unofficial sequel of "The Great Giana Sisters".

giana's logo Giana's Return aims to be a worthy unofficial sequel of "The Great Giana Sisters". "The Great Giana Sisters" is a classic Jump'N'Run game made in the late eighties mainly by Armin Gessert, Manfred Trenz and Chris Hülsbeck and gained massive attention as "Super Mario" copy, but still had it's very own charm and fanbase.

Evil Swampy and his followers have stolen the magic ruby, which made it once possible for Giana and Maria to return from their dream. Many creatures are after this ruby, but does it really have power, or was it just a coincidence? As this is not bad enough, Swampy fell in love at first sight with Giana's sister Maria and shamelessly kidnapped her. She simply has been at the wrong place at the wrong time. You take over the role of Giana, get back the magic ruby and most important of all, save your beloved sister Maria and get home save.

Originally written for the C64, The Great Giana Sisters was a controversial game in it's day because of the similarities to Mario Bros and was withdrawn very soon after its release. Despite this, it grew a small cult following and was often mentioned in the C64 press, usually when quoting the top games for the computer.

Giana's Return is a very worthy successor to the original, and stays true to the style with familiar graphics and haunting soundtrack, but it's all souped up with more colours and better presentation. You should instantly be familiar with the controls if you have ever played the mario series, move the character across a horizontally scrolling landscape while jumping on the heads of baddies and hitting blocks to reveal goodies. There are a few powerups which give you powers like the ability to shoot but once you touch an enemy or fall off the screen you will lose it. Each level has a time limit by which you must reach the exit on the far right hand side, if time runs out you must start again and lose a life but the enemies that you have already dispatched will remain gone.

A password system is in place so you don't have to restart the game each time like with the original, it would be a fair task to get through the game on the basic life provisions and unfortunately gamers just aren't as hardcore as they used to be. Only problem with password systems is you need to write down reams off codes on paper to remember them, a progress saving feature or completed level selector would be more useful in my opinion, but it retains the retro feel with passwords.

The beauty of this game is the whole feel to it, although some have commented on spots where pixel perfect jumping is required, I think it adds to the authenticity of the game. The graphics are superb with multi layered parralax backgrounds and varying level themes, and the music, although not original, complements the action very well.

As a final note, Giana's Return feels very complete, except the lack of high score table which isn't essential. Recent news indicates a new release is likely to happen with the inclusion of the original Giana Sisters levels - this can only make a great game better and is most welcome among the top games available for the GP32.

Features include:
7 Worlds, with each 8 Levels - followed by a "big boss"
    Power Ups and Extras
Oldschool style pixeled sprites and tiles
    Wonderful hand drawn backgrounds
    Illustrated hand drawn storyline
    Over 18 Tracks of Chipmusic
Password and/or Savegame (depending on release platform)
Hidden Warp Zones and Bonus Caves
    Hidden Trainer
    Top 10 Highscore
    Multi-Language: German, English, French, Spanish

The Goonies is a platform game based on the film of the same name.

goonies_logoGoonies is a fun jump n' run game. The action takes place in the sleepy seaside town of Cauldron Point, down in an area known as the Goon Docks.

The action takes place in the sleepy seaside town of Cauldron Point - down in an area known as the Goon Docks. The Goonies are a group of local kids - Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Chunk and Data.

One day they find an old treasure map in Mikey's attic. Data figures that this must be the fabulous hidden treasure of the notorious local pirate, One-Eyed Willy. The girls, Andy and Stef, join the other Goonies and the adventure begins. But the secret underground tunnels they are exploring are actually the hideout of the Fratelli Gang, and the Goonies are soon trapped! The Goonies have a powerful ally on their side, however, in the form of the huge and amiable Sloth.
Control.
The player controls Mikey. Mikey defends himself with a kick, bombs (which can harm Mikey if he gets too close), and a slingshot (found in later stages).
Stages.
The game roughly follows the film, with stages resembling the restaurant, caverns and a pirate ship. The game also recreates one scene from the film where the Goonies are on a beach watching The Inferno ship sail away.
Throughout the journey, Mikey has to find three keys and one Goonie for each level. Mikey can advance to next level after finding the three keys, but in order to really "finish" the game, Mikey must also collect all the Goonies to access the game's final level (The Pirate Ship). Otherwise, the game will re-start from the first level.
Enemies.
An army of rats patrol the stages frequently. There are two kinds of Rats — a red one and a yellow one. The red one needs one hit of kick/slingshot attempt, while the yellow one needs two. Jake Fratelli makes an appearance and attempts to attack Mikey by shooting at him. Jake Fratelli cannot be killed, even by bombs; he can only be stunned. After a while, he will get up and continue chasing the player (if still on screen). However, if he is stunned while jumping over a pit, he will fall into it.

Don Ceferino Hazaña action game similar to Super Pang.

ceferino hazaña  Don Ceferino Hazaña ais a game similar to 'Super Pang'. You are attacked by little green balls which are bouncing around and which you have to kill with your knife.
Your knife however is limited to being thrown upwards, thus you have to get under the balls to kill them.
Even worse, if you 'kill' a large ball, it doesn't just vanish, but breaks apart into two smaller balls.
Levels consist of little platforms connected by ladders, so you can go up and down or find cover if needed.
